Handy Tip : Goodle add weight to a web site for the quality of the links coming back to it, for example a link from a top 100 website such as Amazon or Microsoft will give the webside a better ranking than a link from a site that gets a handful of visitors each day.

Reader Shares His Secret to Getting Indexed by Google

On Google and other engines, links to your Web site can not only boost rankings, but as Tom Schwarz discovered, a quality link from a single Web site can also improve your ability to get listed. Consider Tom's recent comments:

Brent,

I don't remember seeing this in any of your information or in the monthly newsletters. I suspect it was and I missed it but here are some thoughts from Kansas. Regardless, I'm guessing you have done this yourself.

I find submitting to Google is useless. Best case you wait several weeks and they get you listed. Worst case, you never get listed.

So, I have learned another method and I think more emphasis should be put on this method...

I have a number of websites that are in very good standing with Google. http://www.shopping-headquarters.com is the best of the bunch. If somebody comes to me with a website that is not listed in Google, I simply put a link on my website for a few days and like magic, the unlisted website is listed. I cannot promise a position for specific keywords but can promise you will get listed.

Normally I put the link at the bottom of every page using an include file so I only have to add and delete it once. I find that most of the time it only takes a couple of days.

I just wish I could find a way to charge for this service. Anyway, that is my tip/trick for the year.

Tom Schwarz

Tom's experience confirms that a link from a site already indexed by Google can get your Web site indexed much faster than a submission alone. You'll notice that Tom's Web site includes links to his partner sites at the bottom of every page. This means that anytime Google's spider revisits a page on shopping-headquarters.com, it has a direct link to the partner sites, further helping those sites to get indexed.

Be aware though that submitting to an FFA or other site where your link is maintained for a brief period of time and then removed will not help you much with Google. First, Google tends to periodically review its index, dropping previously indexed sites that no longer have any incoming links. Therefore, if you're fortunate to know a friend like Tom who will link to your site, make sure you establish one or more other links before the first one is removed.

Those that are new to search engine optimization may be wondering how they can achieve a third party link to their site to facilitate getting indexed on Google. Fortunately, there are many effective techniques for acquiring links to your site that are discussed in detail in WebPosition Gold's Page Critic. The Page Critic can also measure the current link popularity of your Web site, and help you develop a comprehensive optimization strategy.
