Space Invaders

This online version of Space Invaders is exactly like the good ole' classic that was popular in the 80's. That is with one exception, and that being, it is played with a computer mouse. Everything else from the vector style graphics and arcade sounds will bring back memories of the very early hand consoles.

The original Space Invaders was designed by Tomohiro Nishikado, and released in 1978. This version will still give many a young (or old) gamer just as much fun. Highly recommended for everyone!

Game design plan

Shown below is an example of how to make a design plan if you wanted to create a scary game similar to 'Space Invaders'.

Please Note: This game design plan is merely a reverse-engineer of my experiences as a player.

Shoot all the alien space crafts before they kill you.


Characters:
The characters in this classic arcade game are the spacecrafts.


Audio / visual aesthetics:


Graphics are classic arcade in style. Drawn simply as vectors.

There are 4 different styles of alien spacecrafts drawn. 3 are white in color and one red.

The background music and sound is exactly like that of the original classic space invaders. Anyone who played the original hand held version in the 80's will instantly relate to this game.

Itemization of game elements:


When the game loads, the first screen displays the 4 different types of alien crafts, along with their kill score.

A short description of how to play is shown. ie Just use your mouse to play.

A Start button is also displayed.

Once in the game, the overall score is shown on the top left corner.

The bottom GUI displays how many lives you have left.

 

 

Itemization of game rules:


Mouse click to shoot and kill the 4 different types of enemy space ships.

Each of the enemies will score you differently depending on which ones you kill.

You are given 3 lives to start the game with. When all 3 lives are used up, the game will be restarted.
