Sandwich dash game

'Sandwich dash' is a free time management game where the player runs a virtual takeaway street store. Along similar lines to Hot Dog Bush, the gamer gets to manage time and profits, by keeping customers happy and delivering their orders in a timely manner. The online game is played with simple mouse drags. ie drag the ingredients together and then to the waiting customer. Make sure you cook the ham and eggs first before placing them onto the sandwich.

Game design plan

Shown below is an example of how to make a design plan if you wanted to create a time management game similar to 'Sandwich Dash'.

Please Note: This game design plan is merely a reverse-engineer of my experiences as a player.

Title:

Sandwich Dash

Actual Developers:

YouGame.com

Once sentence description:

Time management game where you keep your customers happy by making their sandwiches in as fast a time as possible.

Scenario / World:

The game scenario is set in a sandwich takeaway store.

Mode:

Single Player. But you can submit and view high scores from other players.

Objectives:

keep each customer happy by making their correct sandwiches in as fast a time as possible.

Characters:

The main viewable characters in the game are the customers. They resemble all different characters of numerous age groups. Characters are also doubled up in that the player will mostly see the same character come back for seconds. I found this sometimes confusing if the same character appeared one after another.

Audio / visual aesthetics:

Graphics are very simple, yet acceptable for a free online game. They get the message of the game across to the viewer quite well. Bold basic color schemes are used. Most of the graphics contain a thicker outline when drawn. Shadow helps to create a feeling of texture.

There is no background music, except for a small piece to insinuate the end of the game at the end. However, there are other sounds such as popping when the player drags an ingredient onto the hotplate. And a tingle when you drag the sandwich to the customer etc.

Genre(s):

time management

Possible Target Audience:

Everyone - simple enough for kids and adults alike. Possibly more suited to new time management gamers.

Itemization of game elements:

Game's entry screen displays the ingredients in graphical format and gives the player 4 links to mouse click.

  1. Start - begins the game.
  2. Wall of fame - top scores from all players.
  3. Play more games - a full list of games created by the same developers.
  4. This game on your website - displays a full list of games created by the developers, showing those that publishers can add to their web sites.

Starting the game firstly displays a run down on the instructions, explaining how to play.

When the game starts, the bottom half of the screen displays all the mouse draggable ingredients and the stove / hotplate.

The top GUI (graphical user interface) displays the following game elements:

  • Level - to show what level of the game you are currently playing.
  • Money - displays how much money / profit you have made.
  • Target - shows the target profit you need to reach for that specific level.
  • Question icon - when clicked on displays the instructions again.
  • Sounds icon - turns sounds on or off at will.
  • A grahical clock image - shows how much time you have left per level.

Itemization of game rules:

Fullfill customer orders within a quick time frame. This will ensure you make the target money amount for each level. Customers will only be patient for a certain amount of time before walking away disgruntled.

Game is played with simple mouse drags. ie drag the ingredients together and then to the waiting customer.

Cook ham and eggs if ordered.
