Handy Tip : Saving your graphic project in the psp format prior to merging the layers will make it easy to return to your image for further work as the layers remain intact.

How to work with layers

Make a habit of adding new elements to your webpage image on a new layer.

Not everyone advocates the use of layers for each stage of a graphic project, but I feel there are more advantages to doing each step in a new layer than disadvantages.

Here's a few reasons;

You can move the layer around, this way and that way, both within its own layer and up or down in the layer stack.

You can isolate, modify and delete the image painlessly.

You can centre it instantly!

If you have a transparent single image layer that needs to be centred precisely, Copy each image and PASTE it as a New Layer. This automatically centres the image.

You can always go back to a particular layer and alter the look where necessary.

And finally, when making graphics in layers, save them first in the .PSP format before saving them as web graphics as .jpg or .gif. This way you can always go back and delete layers instead of re-making the graphic.
