Adding "alt" tag to an image

Adding a hyperlink to an image or text allows you to guide your visitor where you want them to go, within your site or across the web.

Let's start with making text a link.

  • Type in some text and highlight what you want as a link. For example type in "CLICK HERE" and highlight.

  • From the 3rd row of the tool bar, select the hyperlink icon. (See image below) (or you can click "Insert", on the top toolbar, then "Hyperlink"
or use the key board short cut Ctrl+k
    )

Example of frontpage toolbar showing hyperlink icon

  • Select the type of link you require. A link to another page or site on the web will be http://
An email link will be mailto:

    (Some well-known protocols are : )
http .... Hypertext Transfer Protocol, for World Wide Web pages.
ftp ..... File Transfer Protocol, for downloading and uploading files.
news .. Reading and posting messages to newsgroups.
gopher ..Menu like information system, used before the WWW got popular.
telnet ... Remote login on another computer javascript.

  • Type in the page address or email address.

  • Set a target. If required. Usually if the link will point to a page within your own site, there is no need to set a target here.
If the page will be outside of your site then type in _blank. (See image below.)

This is an example of using the "ALT" function.

The TARGET attribute forces the load of that link into a targeted window. If a window with the supplied target name does not exist then a new window will be created with that name. If you do not specify a target window the current window will be used.

TARGET names These names all begin with the underscore character. Any targeted window name beginning with underscore which is not one of these names, will be ignored.
_blank This target will cause the link to always be loaded in a new blank window.
_self This target causes the link to always load in the same window the anchor was clicked in.
_parent This target makes the link load in the immediate FRAMESET parent of this document.
_top This target makes the link load in the full body of the window.

    Linking an image or graphic.

  • Click on the image and follow the above steps as for linking text.

Adding an "alt" tag to an image.

"ALT" tags give a graphic intense page a means of getting text into the document so search engines will pick up keywords in the body. They are also great for the visually impaired and usually give a short description of the graphic.

  • Place your cursor over the image and "right click"

  • Choose "Image Properties"

  • Set your attributes, (See image below).

  • Image Source is where your image will be stored on your server. On a paid host like Hypergurl it will only need to be the image name.jpg.

  • At text, type in your short message.

  • Fill in the hyperlink information if required.

Click "ok".

This is an example of setting the alternative text or alt option.
