Forms Tutorial.
Inserting forms for visitor interactivity.
Tutorials #1 thru #3 helped
you create a web page that looks good and is functional. However other than
links it lacks interactivity with viewers. This is where forms come in. Most
forms allow you to collect information about people who visit your sites.
They can collect information from people who fill in your form on their browser,
process the information and then send the results to you. An example form
is a scrolling menu as below.
When
you gather information on a form, you need that information to be processed and
sent to you via email, You will require a second part of the form to send this
information to a program or a script for processing.
The
most common way is to use CGI (Common Gateway Interface) scripts. This is a pearl
program which processes the data from forms. Very commonly used for complex activities
(e.g. search engines). Also most webcounters and guestbooks rely on CGI.
Not all ISP and hosting services offer to support CGI , others limit those
you can use. Hypergurl wehosting has no limits to it's
use and clients can have their chosen CGI scripts install free if required. In
this tutorial we will keep it simple and cover forms that can be used such as
drop down menu's etc. To
make a drop down menu. - Select
"Insert", "Form Field", "Drop Down Menu"
- The
image below will appear. Double click on the icon to edit the menu properties.
 - Give
your menu a name.
- Select
the height of the menu.
- Click
add to add your pages to the menu.
 - At
"Choice" put in the name of the first item.
- Check
specify value and put in page url.
- Check
selected.
- Hit
"ok. The first item on your drop down menu has been added.

- To
add more pages or sites click the "add" button and follow steps as above
but check "Not Selected" That's
it. You can now make a form. All forms are as simple as this. You are almost
an expert.
