Summary:
Feathering an image gives the edges a softer look and is great for web
site images, as the feathering blends the image into the design much
nicer than sharp corners.

Feathering
an Image

Like
a nice soft edge to your images? This PSP feathering tutorial shows you
how.
Step
1

Open an image
in Paint Shop Pro. File/Open
We will use the rainbow image at right. You can save this image if you
like to use with the tutorial.
Step 2
Click on the
"Selection Tool"
and then click the "Toggle Tool Options"
and set the drop window to your desired shape;
This tutorial will use....

Step 3

Click on your image and draw out the shape to required amount. Make it
a little smaller than what you may think as it will grow on application.
Step

Open a new transparent image. Make the dimensions a little larger
than your original image.
Example.
The rainbow image is 250x187.
The new transparent image is 260x195
Flood Fill
your new image to suit the background color of the page you are putting
the image on. Our example is going on this page so the background will
be white.
Hint:
If you have a unusual colored background, you can set the background image
by selecting the "Dropper Tool"
and clicking the color.
Step 5
Go back to the original image and copy it to your clipboard.
"CTRL plus C"
Step 6
Click on your new image and press your keyboards "Ctrl plus L"
This will paste the selected image as a new layer and allow you to freely
move and position the image where required.
Step 7

Click on Layers/Merge/Merge All(Flatten)
Step 8
Save As and you are done.
You can play around with the shapes and feather settings. For example
you can set the selection tool to rounded rectangle or set it to
"point to point" and be a little more creative.
