Handy Tip: When resizing images, it's important to keep in mind whether or not you'll be needing to print it on paper. Not all resized images can be printed in full size. If you resize too small, you might find the printed version is very pixelated.

EXACT RESIZING OF IMAGES FOR PRINTING

Resize your images exacly to the size of your print paper with this PSP tutorial. You may need to complete the tutorial a few times before you get it right, but with perserverence the time taken will be worth the effort.

STEP 1

Open a file that you wish to size to an exact dimension in inches.

STEP 2

Go to Image > Resize.... A dialog box will appear.

Select the Actual/print size radio button and type in the size that you want for one of the two dimensions (width OR height, not both).

It is best to choose the dimension that leaves the opposite dimension greater than what you want it to be. (It's a lot easier to crop an image than it is to add to it.)

Make sure that the Maintain aspect ratio radio button is selected, then hit OK.

STEP 3

Now go back to the Image menu and select Resize... again.

Once again, select the Actual/print size radio button.

Type in the OTHER dimension that you did not type in before. Then notice that up above in the top of the dialog box it will change the numbers for the Pixel size radio button.

Note the corresponding number of the dimension that you just changed, then click the Cancel button to close the dialog box. DO NOT CLICK OK.

STEP 4

Now go up to Image > Canvas Size and change the canvas's pixel size to match that from the resize dialog box.

Remember that you can always look back by going to Image > Resize... and repeat step 3.

STEP 5

You should now have the exact size in inches that you wanted, so you can print and cut it out to fit in that size photo frame.

You may want to double-check before you print by going to Image > Resize... and clicking on the Actual/print size radio button to check and see if the width and height are the numbers you wanted.
