How to make
engraved navigation menus
Here's
a way to make great looking engraved buttons that fix together to make a very
stylish navigation menu. Extensive
screenshots are used to make the tutorial easy to follow so we have split the
tutorial over 2 pages to facilitate page loading times. Please follow the link
after step 8 to complete the tutorial. Step

Open a new image
150x50
White Background, 16 Million colors Step

Select the
Flood Fill Tool Set
foreground color to white and background color to black.
Step

Apply a Linear Gradient Fill using the settings below:
Linear
Gradient Settings 
Fill Style = Normal Match Mode = None Opacity = 100
Under the
Styles Tab (See right)
Gradient = Metallic
Angle = 180
Repeats = 0

Darken the image by adjusting the gamma correction
Colors>Adjust>Gamma Correction RGB = .56

Add
a new layer Layers>New Raster Layer
Step

Select the "Drawing Tool"
and while holding down the "Shift" key, draw a straight
White line.

Type = Single Line
Width = 35
Line Style = Rounded
Antialias = Checked

Click the
Selection Tool
then press CTRL+A to make the whole image your active selection.
Now click your mouse once anywhere on your image to highlight the Straight
line and make it the current selection.
Save
the current selection to alpha channel Selections>Save to Alpha Channel
and name it Button

Apply a Linear Gradient Fill
using the settings below:
(Refer to step 3)
Linear
Gradient Settings Fill Style = Linear Gradient Blend
Mode = Normal Paper Texture and Match Mode = None
Under the
Styles Options Tab
Gradient = Metallic
Angle = 0
Repeats = 0

Apply
some depth by darkening the active selection. Colors>Adjust>Gamma
Correction (RGB = .50) Deselect
image by pressing [CTRL+D]
