Part 2 of the left bordered background tutorial.
Part 1
STEP
6 Select the main body of your image by using the Magic
Wand Tool and
clicking inside the main body of the image, not in the colored gradient section.

STEP
7 Go to Selection and Invert. Your
selection should now be on the Gradient Color Section.

8 Add a 3D Effect by selecting
Effects || 3D Effects || Drop Shadow Apply
the following settings. Vertical = 0 Horizontal = 3 Opacitiy =
100 Blur = 10 Shadow Color = Black ( Or your color to suit.)

PSP Leaves
a slight "gap" on the top and bottom of the shadow effect. If
this "gap" is not closed it will leave an imperfection in the
finished product as the background tiles down the page. You need to make
a "Patch" to cover the gap.

Select
the Magnifying Tool
and zoom in a few times to make work easy. Click on the Selection
Tool and Draw out a rectangle selection.
You need
to place the cursor exactly at the 150 pixels horizontal mark.
Look at the measurements in the bottom left status bar, just above the
Start Button.

Copy
the Patch selection to your clipboard. CTRL
+ C Paste the selection as a New Selection. CTRL + E
Slide the New Selection to cover the "Gap" at the top and Deselect.
Selections || Select
None. STEP 11 Repeat
the New Selection process for the bottom "Gap".
CTRL + E. Slide into place. Your
background is now finished. Save as a JPG.
