Google

Handy Tip: Most effects and filters in Corel Paint Shop Pro won't work if you are not in 16 million color mode. Along the top toolbar click on Colors, Increase color depth and when the option for 16 million colors is not greyed out, click it.

PSP TUTORIALS. LEFT BORDERED BACKGROUNDS

In this 2 part Corel PSP tutorial, we show an easy way to make those nice left borders for webpages. The finished article from the tutorial is used on this page. Your site will look much better than this example, as you will design the page to suit. Plenty of screenshots to help with the tutorial.

If you require the border on the right hand side of your page, simply reverse the settings.

STEP 1

Open a New Image.

150 x 100
White Background
16 Million Colors

STEP 2

Select the Flood Fill Tool and set the Foreground and Background colors to the colors of your choice

STEP 3

Set the Styles Selector to Gradient.

Select Linear Gradient Style and Foreground-Background.

Angle = 90 Degrees

Repeats = 0

Flood Fill your image.

STEP 4

You will now add the main portion of your background image.

Go back to your color Palette and change the background color to whatever the main background color of your page will be. For example, this page used here is mainly white so there was no need to change the color in this case. If your background color would be Blue, Black or whatever, then change it to that.

STEP 5

Click on Image ( Top Tool Bar) and then Canvas Size.

Apply the following settings.

New Width = 1600
New Height = 100
(Note - no change from original )

Center Image horizontally = uncheck
Center image vertically = Checked

Left = 0
Right = 1450

(This image could be now be saved "as is" if you like, and used as a Left Bordered Background. There is no need to follow the additional steps if you choose. The additional steps will add a Drop Shadow Effect to the background and give a 3D effect to the finished product.)

Follow the link below to finish the left bordered background tutorial.
