Build your website traffic with free ebooks
Back in 2001 we built an ebook called "How to make a website from scratch". It was put together using a free ebook creator and distributed on download.com as well as many other ebook directories. Our statistics today still show over 700 unique visitors per week coming to Hypergurl from the links in that ebook alone. Not bad considering it's never been updated since that time. Ebooks are a fantastic way to help build your website traffic.
It doesn't matter what your website is about, you'll find an ebook category that suits the content. Listed below are some tips on how to create a free ebook as well as websites you can use to promote it.
Free software you can use to make your ebook with:
1. Ebook Builder 4 - Ebook builder 4 is a 100% free utility program that allows you to create ebooks out of any HTML page. In other words, if you know how to create a HTML page, then all you need to do is import those pages (as well as any images that go with them) into Ebook builder and it creates the exe file for you.
2. http://www.ebookmaestro.com/ has a useful free version of their professional ebook creation software. This free ebook creator also makes downloadable exe files from webpages. Of course the free version is limited, but is still useful in creating basic ebooks that are to be used for promotional purposes on download sites.
3. Activ Ebook (no its not a typo) is another ebook compiler that lets you make free books for distribution.
Tips for building website traffic through your ebook:
1. Create an 'about page' within your ebook that links to your website.
2. Put your url in the header or footer of each page.
3. At the end of the ebook, link to parts of your website that would interest the readers of your book. In other words, create a recommended reading or useful links page within the ebook.
4. You could possibly place your website banner at the top of each page within your ebook. To build your website traffic make sure you link that banner to your website of course.
Where to list your ebook once you have it built:
1. Click on the submit software link at the bottom of download.com.
2. The Ebook Directory is a website that will list your ebook for free. Search for the category that your ebook will suit and click the link that says "submit ebook" on the left side.
3. http://www.free-ebooks.net/ is one of the largest free ebook directories on the net and a great place to start promoting your website.
4. Email magazines that have a similar theme to your website and offer it to them for free use on their cd distributions. This can also work with any websites that have a similar content to yours. Look for those that are already offering downloads to their visitors. Everyone likes a free extra.
Building website traffic with ebooks is simply a matter of keeping an eye out for the opportunities to promote it to as many people as possible. Using other webmasters traffic is a great starting point.

Wow thanks heaps for the info. I downloaded Ebook Builder 4 just today and finished compiling my very own ebook. I now have it on my site for download. Can't wait to see how well it goes. The ebook can be found at http://www.cheaterzclub.com/tamagotchi.shtml
Your welcome,
I'm glad you found the ebook post helpful. Don't forget to submit it to ebook directories now to help build website traffic from visitors you may have otherwise missed.
Kind Regards.
Tanya.
Hi Again,
I was up till nearly 2am this morning adding the ebook to the directories. I'll look for tamagotchi forums today and promote it there.
Thanks hypergurl :-)

Hey hypergurl, do you know how to delete stuff from Download.com Mine is so old now it is embarrassing.
I do agree though that they are a great way to bring traffic to your web site.
Hi Jenny,
The only way to delete an ebook that I can see is to possibly contact support and ask them to. Although I also think deleting the ebook from your hosting server will help because the downloads are still served from your own website. Eventually someone will tell them it's a bad link and they should delete your listing for the ebook. Then again you could update the ebook and reupload it so anyone reading it in future will have fresh content.
Kind Regards.
Tanya.

Great information thanks. I've been searching for a free ebook compiler for ages. Good idea about them building website traffic too. I was going to put it on my site but didn't think about submitting it to download sites as well. Thanks again.
