Copy paste as new image in Photoshop

How to copy and paste as a new image in Adobe Photoshop

After being a long time user of Jasc Paint Shop Pro there was one specific tool I missed, that took me a long time to work out how to do in Adobe Photoshop. In PSP it was as easy as Edit / Paste / As new image. However copying and pasting to a new image with Photoshop takes one extra step.

First you need to select the area in your original image that you want to copy and paste. Then click on Edit / Copy, to copy it to your clipboard.

Next click on 'File / New' and where it says 'Preset', make sure the drop down says Clipboard. What this does is make a new file the same size as the selection you copied earlier.

Now click on Edit / Paste to paste the selection to the new image.

It doesn't take long to get used to copying and pasting a new image with Photoshop once you've done it a few times.
