SLR Photography Guide

Keeping website / graphic design content separate to photography articles

While we think it's important for website developers to take their own photographs for use on their sites, we also recognise that not all photographers create websites. For this reason, we have decided to continue our photography articles over on their own domain at SLR Photography Guide.

We will still update developers who use this website on useful articles we've added to the photography guide. For instance we have plans in the near future for adding an article on product photography for designers who have online stores.

Recently we've added a couple that may be of use to those with travelling or nature websites: landscape photography tips and light trail night photography. If you have a pet theme or more specifically a website about fish and aquariums, you may find our article on aquarium photography useful.

All past posts found under our original free digital photography course will remain on this site as an introductory for website designers.

All Photoshop tutorials, even those that include photography, will also stay within this weblog.

John:

Hello,

I enjoy your site, I learned so much in a very short time. I'm a real newbie, I just bought an XTi with 28-135 mm IS USM lens. I'm wondering if you can provide a tutorial on the distance scale, I'm not sure how to use it. Also is there any rules on certain situation like what ISO I have to use inside and outside a building ?.
TIA!
John

Gidday John,

It's best to use an ISO of 800 or more when inside especially if you don't want to use an inbuilt flash. Outside its best to use as low an ISO as possible. For example 100 or 200 for the best quality. I'll add the distance scale tutorial on my list of things to do :)

Kind Regards.
Tanya.
