How to clean dust off Canon camera sensor

How to clean your Canon EOS sensor

If you find you have spots or circular shadows appearing on your digital photographs, chances are you have dust on your camera sensor. Usually the spots are not noticeable until you take a photograph in a high aperture such as f22. First time SLR photographers are usually nervous about cleaning their camera's sensor. Yet its not as hard as you imagine.

Canon 400D has an inbuilt self cleaning sensor unit. This video below is useful for demonstrating how this inbuilt self cleaning sensor works.

If you have a Canon 5D or 30D then you will need to clean the sensor manually with a swab. This demonstration below will show you the steps you need to take.

Other methods listed on the site above include using a digital camera cleaning kit, or wet and dry swab cleaners, a sensorscope system, cleaning brush and blowing. Blowing is the number one method as recommended by Canon. Another good option is to take it back to the camera or Canon store and have it done professionally.
