You don’t need your own product to make money online
What many people don’t realize is you don’t necessarily need your own product to make a successful living online. Here are a few ideas and examples of how other home business owners started making Internet income without having a product of their own.
Two of the most popular income generators for Internet business owners at the moment are affiliate programs and Google Adsense.
Affiliate Programs
Affiliate programming is where you promote someone else’s product on your website and for every lead that ends up in a sale you are paid a percentage commission. I highly recommend visiting http://www.associateprograms.com/ to learn as much as you can about affiliate programs. AssociatePrograms.com is owned by Allan Gardyne who has earned a good living from affiliate programs since 1998. His no-nonsense, tell it as it is approach has made his newsletter a favorite of mine for the last five years. Allan’s website offers literally hundreds of useful tips and money making articles that will help you make a good start to successfully work from home.
Tips on implementing affiliate programs on your website
1. First build a rich content website that is useful or entertaining which will have visitors returning often. A website that has ten pages and 100 visitors a day will not even come close to earning you descent Internet income.
2. Ensure the affiliate product you choose to promote is suitable for the content of your website. For example, if you have a website about cars, it is useless advertising photography software to your visitors. They simply won’t be interested. For a huge list of available affiliate programs visit http://www.associateprograms.com/directory/
3. If possible choose affiliate programs that can be black labeled. By black labeled I mean your affiliate interface can be edited to look similar to your own website. I’ve personally found these types of affiliate programs to work best in generating good online income.
Google Adsense
For those that don’t already know the basics of what Google Adsense is, you can read about it here: http://www.google.com/services/adsense_tour/
Adsense allows website owners to earn income from their advertising space. Basically if you have a website, then you can earn money from it.
Tips on implementing Google Adsense on your website
1. Don’t start a website specifically for Adsense. For starters it is against Google’s rules and secondly normally sites that do this are here one day and gone the next. Once again, it’s always best to build a high content (article) site first, that users want to return to often. Then implement Google Adsense.
2. Use adsense as it’s intended, as a positive addition to your website. Once you implement Google Adsense you should find the advertisements are relevant to the content of your website and useful to your visitors if they were to follow a link.
3. Don’t use trickery to make your visitors click on an advertisement. Possible earning potential from Adsense isn’t worth the risk of being kicked off the program. Here are a few case studies of normal people (not huge corporations) who make a living online from Adsense:
Ask The Builder https://www.google.com/adsense/askthebuilder

Fictional example of how a hobby site can be turned into a home business
I’ll presume you already have a website or are about to start one. Some of the most successful websites are ones where the webmaster shares his or her love of a hobby. For example, if your hobby is making dolls then why not start a website about doll making? Let’s face it creating a website on issues you are familiar with gives you a great starting point.
A doll making website might include articles on how to make different types of dolls. You can show a few pictures of ones you have made and explain any trouble you came across and how you solved it. Another great idea is to give away a monthly free pattern for download for others to print out. This will keep visitors returning. Installing a message board where other doll makers can discuss their idea’s will also keep visitors interested.
Once you’ve built up a high quality content website that is getting regular visitors you can start implementing affiliate programs and Google Adsense. Doing a search for ‘dolls’ on Associate Programs Directory http://www.associateprograms.com/directory/ will give you a good number of products to start promoting. Only choose a couple to start with. No one likes a website full of affiliate links and colorful banners ;)
Next you can sign up to be an associate of Amazon.com http://affiliate-program.amazon.com/gp/associates/join . This allows you to promote Amazon products on your website and receive a commission for every sale. For example, you can build a store from within your Amazon account that offers books on making dolls. Then you simply need to link to your store from your website.
Now for the exciting part! If you implement Google Adsense to your hobby site, your visitor simply needs to follow a link and you’ll be paid revenue from your advertising space.
As you can see by this example, you don’t need your own product to make money online. You simply need a website.
